when the lights go out in the city

as you all have heard through the grapevine, i am finally getting settled in my little nest or also known as "the sauna." (which i am sure will change to the igloo by october...hopefully no later!) why do i call it the sauna. well for some crazy/ridiculous reason the sauna does not have central air and heat. otherwise known in the deep south as AIR. not air conditioning or AC, but plain jane air. just like a hose is called "a hose pipe," which my father critiques every time i say that phrase. anyways, here i go getting off on tangents. anyways this thought of not having AC is disturbing and puzzling at the same time. seriously, who does not have AC. well, apparently, j to the j and i...great...

back to the story...
after our first weekend in chicago, j to the j and i were exhausted. to say the least sunday was literally our day of rest. after installing two window AC vents into each of our rooms, we were finally able to retreat to a cool spot of the sauna instead of sweltering in the pit of hades, where the only good thing is the breath-taking view of my new fancy, chicago. finally becoming an ice cube in my room, i hear j to the j gasp in complete shock. so i make the trek through the sauna to make sure no pictures or shelves had fallen off the wall onto her. walking into j to the j's igloo, i find her staring at the her only means of AC in total disgust. come to find out her electricity had blown a fuse. now let me state the blown fuse covered every inch of our flat EXCEPT for my room and one wall in the kitchen. so not only did j to the j have to suffer, but so did our poor little refrigerator. now, we could deal with no AC because we had for two days, but there is no way we could deal without the poor little refrigerator. the main reason being, my eggs would soon spoil. (note: for those of you that know, my new breakfast fav is my homemade egg mcmuffins. anyone who has tasted one knows why!) this just could not happen. so we call mr. housekeeper, our flat attendant, for immediate assistance. after 20 minutes, he sends someone to fix the blown fuse.

j to the j and i sigh with relief and continue our day of rest. after enough r&r, i become restless and decide to take a stroll on betsy, my trusty NOT rusty banana beach bike, with trixie's assistance. after biking up and down my neighborhood and hiking back up the mountain of stairs to my flat, i open the door to sweet little j to the j yelling, "i feel like a monkey!" this quote will stay with me forever and ever... how could it not? i come to find out that the electricity had blown the same fuse. ok this makes it two times in one day. not cool. literally. we call mr. housekeeper again. he fails to answer j to the j, but picks up my call..hmm really reliable... you think? pause...NOT! we explain our problem again, and we go through the same process again. too many "agains" for this being our first weekend with my new fancy.

another sigh of relief and we go back to what we had started. j to the j watching her massive collection of friends dvds and me packing my sack lunch for work the next day at the happiest place on earth..and no i do not work at disney because orlando is the last place i would live (sorry whitty!). right as i find my comfy spot in the bed that i am still trying to get use to, i hear j to the j outside of the door disgruntled and saying "AGAIN? are you serious?" now this time i do not even have to wonder what the problem is, and you probably do not either. so yes the electricity has blown for the third time today. not only is our refrigerator starting to defrost, but so is j to the j. we put our two business college graduate heads together and decide to plug the poor little refrigerator into a power-surge bar which is plugged into the one wall in the kitchen that has electricity. waaalaaa! the poor little refrigerator is back in business; however, every time i leave my igloo i successfully trip over the cord to the power-surge bar. i am not complaining. my eggs are cold and so is my room.

the next morning mr. housekeeper fixes our problem. since sunday we have not had to deal with a blown fuse "again." keep your fingers crossed and your toes...

as journey says,
when the lights go down in the city,
and the sun shines on the bay,
do i want to be there in my city?
oh ohohoh ohohoh ohoh...

well, i would like to say,
when the lights go out in the city,
and the sauna is like a heat wave,
do i want to be here in my flat all hot and sweaty?
oh ohohoh nooo nooo nooooo!
