rain rain go away, come again when i am not here to stay!

today is the sixth consecutive day it has rained here in my lovely yet gloomy little city. after watching my alma mater barely pull off a victory last night, i was bound and determined to start my sunday off right. as i pulled on my orange-flowered rain golloshes that perfectly matched my chic orange pillowcase sundress topped off with my worn in rain jacket, i set out to attend the quaint lutheran church around the corner from my apartment.

i so wanted this church to be the perfect fit. how wonderful would it be for me to look forward to my new house of worship only five minutees away every sunday to start my week off right? umm duh....amazing! so as i trompled through the sidewalks, purposely stomping in the puddles of water gathering on each corner i turned, it was the first day in many days that i had fallen back in love with my life here in the windy city. who cares if it had rained for a week? who cares if i was walking by my lonesome to a strange new place? i was being adventurous on my own and for once in the last couple of weeks, i was giddy and knew i was going to be steered back on the right path and be loved for being just little ole me.

what made my visit even better this morning was mr.&mrs. were visiting with me, too. having them visit with me just made me want this church to be my new love and theirs.

approaching the cobblestone stairs, i saw a jolly, red-cheeked man dressed in his traditional garb. his name was pastor d, and he definitely reminded me of old st. nick. he greeted me with a firm handshake and was genuinely happy i was at church on this rainy, boo-hiss morning.

walking through the wooden double doors, the church was bare and waiting for people to fill the pews with warm hearts to worship as one. i felt such a warm and comforting feeling. it was like i had grown up in this church, sitting in the same pew every sunday between clarkie and sherbear with kimlyn on sherbear's right side. i could hear the showering of the rain pittle patting on the cobblestone stairs outside of the church. i was at peace and a calm feeling took control of my soul. the organ began to play and families started to fill the pews. before the service started, mr.&mrs. arrived with their bright smiles.

as we three sat together for the service, it just felt so right. we sang, we prayed, we listened to pastor d, we prayed some more, we baptized, and we prayed a little more. so needless, the majority of the service was praying. i enjoyed the atmosphere, but honestly, i am the type of person who has to get something out of the sermon. today was not my day; however, mrs. made a good point and lifted my spirits by sweetly saying, "this will be the perfect place for you to worship on a cold, windy, snowy sunday morning." she was so right. her comment made me smile and reassured me that this house could still be my number two.

after chuch mr.&mrs. and i dined out for lunch at my favorite greek restaurant, the athenian room. so tasty. so yummy. so greek.

after lunch, i turned the corner and climbed up the steps of my store front apartment to organize my boxed up life. in the midst of washing my silky, organic sheets (which j to the j loves to tease me about) and shoving things in this corner and that corner to make a walkway through my little box, deplawyler, which i will now call d-law, called to schedule an impromtu grocery trip. of course, i agreed and was excited to have get-to-know-eachother time with my new third roommate. our trip was a success. once we got home d-law started her magic in the kitchen. she made a cheesy baked chicky dinner with a whole grain sauteed pasta side. it was so delishy and so healthy. following j to the j, d-law and my cleaning up the pots and pans and overflowing trasht, d-law baked up some fat free cookies for a late night snack.

now the rain has stopped and the night has fallen. time for a good nights rest. as i think about the last week and especially today, maybe the rain is not that bad or that sad, and maybe i will invite the rain to come back again while i am here to stay.
