in one day, the weather turned from sweet, sweet summertime to chilly, chilly falltime. seriously, in one day. last sunday, the weather was very chicago summer. 89 degrees, sunny with maybe one cloud and mildly humid. the following day started out as the perfect summer day, but as the clouds moved in and the rain began to pour down, the weather turned oh so cold. some might think it would be the rain "cooling things off," as we say in the south. wrong. on tuesday, the day started off at 51 degrees, reached a high of 71 degrees and by night fall dropped down to 49 degrees.
so fall time is here. everything changes. instead of gathering at north ave beach on saturdays, basking in the sun; friends gather at the local college bars, celebrating their alma mater's victory. you would think that sports would began to slow down. well, definitely not in chicago. while the rivalry between the cubbies and the soxs intensifies, the one team all chicagoans can agree on is da' bears. it is such a funny little city. two teams divide the population during the week, but one team unites the population on mondays or sundays.
during this odd weather transition, i keep asking myself one question, "what am i doing here?" i mean really. down south the weather is a consistent 80 - 90 degrees, humid and sunny with the occassional rain to "cool things off" un until mid-november. my dad answers my question by stating, "you are there to get some great experience, so you can market yourself for a well-paying job." so typical. so textbook. so dad. sherbear answers my question by commenting, "do you want me to ship you your winter clothes?" that sherbear, she is always thinking. finally, there is always j to the j, my counterpart in this crazy adventure i have gotten myself tangled in. her answer is truly the best. she quickly replies back to me by questioning me, "seriously, what are we doing here?" we ask each other this question at least twice a week.
as the days fade to fall and a different fun to embrace is on its way, i realize i am here for a reason. maybe to get experience. maybe to find myself. maybe just to enjoy life. only time will tell. for now, i am just a little southern belle living in an ever-changing windy, might i add chilly, city. one day, hopefully soon, i will find my place here, if time does not get the best of me.
