j to the j, deplawyer and me. that makes three.
before i move on with this story, let me give you the low down with deplawyer, my new roommate. deplawyer was who i subleased the sweatbox from while she was interning and making money this summer. her name is deplawyer because she is entering her third year of law school at depaul...if depaul has a law school..ok whatever...you get my point...
on with the show...so yesterday at work i spent three hours talking on the phone, typing on my computer and frantically texting j to the j about my dump of a studio that i was tied to for the next year. yes, i was still dealing with no holes being fixed, no walls being painted and no window glass being replaced. so the sherbear came out in me. i got on the phone and gave the management company two choices: you discount my rent or you terminate my lease. the ASSisstant property manager swung back with a snide remark, "well, i will talk to the bossman and get you right out of this lease. does that make you happy, miss bernie?" being the intuitive lady that i am, i uncouthly commented, "why yes, that sounds just perfect."
i quickly faxed my quite professional and politically correct (might i add) letter of intent to terminate my lease and compensate my security deposit and first month's rent. so the ASSisstant came back to me a ling awaited couple hours later with the reply i was wanting to hear. "miss bernie, when can you come and pick up your checks."
after scheduling all of my important people (j to the j for check pick up and key drop off, mr. from mr.&mrs., to move my bed back to my old apartment, and sherbear to not call the ASSisstant), i was set to move back to the sweatbox in the odd middle/dining/storage room. this room is in between j to the j's room and the kitchen/bathroom/living room and seperates deplawyer from the living room. basically, my space (i do not call it a room) is a walk through room for everyone, which makes it the perfect living room being that it is the center of the apartment.
my appreciation towards j to the j and deplawyer is endless. they are giving me an actual home where i can have all of my belongings out in the open and not boxed up for days on end. not to mention, i am getting a steal deal with rent; however, my privacy in the odd middle/dining/storage room is slim to none. this part is my only buggaboo. i could care less about space and room features; but a girl has to have her privacy. i absolutely understand their reasoning on this situation. they are giving me a place to stay while i am homeless. as of last night my decision was not permanent on staying with them for the rest of the lease; it was only for the time being. so who in their right mind would agree to move the living room furniture to the room next door, rehang all of the wall decorations and reline the cable just for the unknown time being? an idiot. simple as that.
as i have been searching for the past 3 hours (currenty my webbrowser has three windows open with craigslist ads) for a new apartment, i realize the deal i am getting for right now. then i realize if i want to keep this deal and make this situation work, i need to talk with my three's company roommates and figure out a longterm plan. hopefully that will happen this weekend. we shall see....
to quote my fav lines from the perfect theme song for this new chapter in my life:
Come and dance on on our floor,
Take a step that is new,
We've a loveable space that needs your face,
Three's company too!
