i survived my first shareholder's meeting for a fortune 500 company. three months of planning, five days of move-in and one million questions surrounding this-and-that for a one-hour meeting. it was totally worth it. you always hear about shareholder's meetings in your high school economics class, but being able to experience this meeting live is definitely one-of-a-kind!
after hearing from the chairman of the board of directors on the state of the business, my ceo, jimmy skins (yes, that is my nickname for him, but he doesn't know it..yet..), whom was awarded ceo of the year, spoke on behalf of mcwork's new business initiatives. so if you have not tried the specialty coffees, you better. remember to "mccafe your day!"
jimmy skins ended the meeting with Q&A. of course, the usual questions came from a nun of po-dunk illinois about farm workers, the radical wing-nut peta protester for chicken cruelty and the moron mother who has to have something to say about the food choices, even though mcwork has provided the most options out of any fast food chain. i was amazed at how jimmy skins approached each of their ridiculous questions. so calm, yet somewhat sarcastic. if i were him, i would have answered the following:
to the nun about farm workers: if those farmers got a college degree then they wouldn't be in the fields slaving away. next..
to the peta protester about chicken cruelty: if we gas the chickens before they are slain, who does that end up hurting in the end? the consumer. they don't ask for gas grilled chicken, just grilled chicken. no thanks to arbitrary substances that cause cancer in my consumers' food. next..
to the moron mother about her obese child: where do i even start? maybe if you didn't allow your six year old son to order a big mac, large fries and icecream swirl cone, then maybe he wouldn't be obese. instead, make him order a side salad, apple dippers and bottled water. booyah..
props to jimmy skins. he is mcawesome! no wonder he received ceo of the year..duh..
after the meeting concluded, i was out in the foyer monitoring security and answering any questions from the old and decrepit shareholders about if so-and-so was still vice president of some no-name department. my answer, "yes sir, i remember him, but i am not quite sure."
the highlight of the meeting was when i was able to take a picture with freddy t. he was the right-hand man to the founder of mcwork. i have been dying to take this picture since i started at mcwork almost a year ago. a little diddy on freddy t., he is basically older than dirt, and his seat for the ONE-HOUR meeting was placed by the exit door, so he could take smoke break..seriously, he is awesome..yet, my camera battery was dunzo!! no worries, minnie to the rescue!! however, my co-worker that took the picture def does not know how to keep the camera still on minnie and the picture was totally blurry. oh well, i have a blurry picture with THE freddy t. and the conversation to get the picture was one for the record books..
me: hey mr. turner. would you mind taking a picture with me? (i totally laid on the southern accent.)
freddy t: [insert look of "who the fudge are you?"] sure, i guess.
me: [insert huge smile] oh thank you! now make sure you smile!
freddy t: ugh..
another meeting under my belt and fun stories to share with ya'll..
