my first day back to work on monday brought me a new challenge. driving in the snow. i did not know it had snowed until my local newscasters announced the three inch snowfall within the four hours i was asleep. (note: i had a delay in atlanta and did not get to my apartment until midnight.)
it sure enough snowed. my car looked like an egg sitting on the street. fighting the wind, i scraped the ice off the windows, started my car, turned on the defrost and swiped off the layers of snow from my windshield. i realized by march, i will be able to do this with my eyes shut.
back to driving. i took all the precautions. drove slow (i mean granny speeds slow..the only exception is my nina), a car and half length behind the motorist in front of me and stayed in the same lane till i got to work. well, i made it to work...in a hour and a half. everyone driving on the ike was freaking out. i could tell by the nonstop brake lights and swerving. i just thought to myself, "come on ya'll. i am from the south. seriously."
trampling into work, leaving traces of snow behind me, i made it to my little cubicle. i was grinning from ear to ear. i was so proud of my first snow drive to work. the more i drive and get the feel of my tires against the snowy-slick road, i know i will become an expert. as sherbear would always tell me during my swimming days, "practice makes perfect."
