oh my, what a morning! after getting maybe three hours of sleep and lugging my much overweight bag (with the help of mr.right) to the brown line stop to get to take the orange line train to midway airport, i finally arrived with more than plenty of time to waste before boarding my plane to head back south for holiday with the fam.
first funny story...
sitting at the gate and enjoying my delishy potbelly's breakfast sandwich, i noticed my people were starting to board the plane. as i managed to get my life back in order, i made my way to wait in yet another line. pretty sure it was line numero quatro. blah. anyways, i was next in line to hand over my boarding pass. instead of hearing the reassuring "ding" of the ticket machine, my sound was a dismaying "brrr." of course me being in a crazy state of mind, i exclaimed, "well great! this would happen to me!" before i could get out another complaint, the ticketer holding his cool quite well with my temper, said, "mam' this flight is boarding to orlando. your flight will be next." that shut me up.
feeling like a complete fool, i stumbled over to an empty seat and waited (again...) for my flight to the country music capital of the world. trying to pass time, i made a couple of phone calls, wrote a couple of texts and surfed random subjects on minnie.
second funny story...
finally, time to board. boarding pass. check. entered the plane. check. found my seat. check. since my carrier has open seating, i was able to pick the perfect seat, which i would have it no other way. placing my belongings in the empty aisle seat, my neighbor, whom i will call music queen, for the flight gave me a heads up that her husband, whom I will call push-up king (which he requested i nickname him), would be joining us. i waited patiently for push-up king to make his entrance onto the plane.
after take off, it was push-up king by the window, music queen in the middle and i on the aisle. no words were said until push-up king asked music queen, "where are the drink tickets?" i overheard music queen telling him they were in the overhead compartment. he was in total shock. "what do you mean? we need them now!" was his response. politely music queen turned to me while i was reading pages from my book one fifth avenue to ask, "would you like to drink with us?" my answer "WELL YEAH!" ran out of my mouth with no hesitation.
for the rest of the flight, i enjoyed a couple of drinks with my new friends and initiated a toast to "new friends in the new year!" as i became familiar with music queen and push-up king, they found me quite interesting. well, interesting enough to let me in on push-up king's new endeavor of writing a memoir of his many traveling encounters. music queen took my picture with her crackberry and push-up king noted, i might just get the front cover. if you were a stranger on board you would have thought we had known each other for years. push-up king and i held nothing back when it came to sarcastic remarks and jokes. of course, music queen and i exchanged contact information after i shared my present and future career plans.
before we knew it, our plane was hovering over our destination. i would soon leave my new besties, but i would also be reuniting with my sister and now official brother in-law for the first time since their wedding in august! (sorry, no blog for that special day...too crazy of a week!)
