corporate america

this past week, i traveled on my first business trip. what an experience. i woke up twenty minutes before my ride was to come pick me up for the airport (yes, i forgot to turn my alarm ON...not good, but i made it happen, as always) and experienced o'hare international airport. i was also able to check-in with my co-worker who has executive status. boy, did i feel like i was fergie flying first class up in the sky; however, i was not sipping any champagne due to this trip being purely business.

it was a long week in orlando for a pre-site for my mccompany. being on the food & beverage team for my mcconvention in july, i met a lot of sales contacts at the hotels and convention center that ranged from ice queen to sweet grandma j types; oh and everything in between (i.e. messed up grill, missing finger, o.c.d. and totally boring).

i also experienced the end of the day unwind with my co-workers aka drinking at the bar. i could have set a timer at exactly thirty minutes after arriving back at the hotel all of my co-workers could be found at the various bars and restaurants throughout the hotel with a beer in hand or sipping on a glass of vino. it was pleasant unwinding with my co-workers and telling funny past-time stories, instead of conversing about what would go well with the open faced turkey sandwiches and scalloped potatoes or what flavor of liqueur is in the chocolate cake bites.

as the week went on, more and more was accomplished for our first pre-site in orlando. even though we brought the windy city weather with us, the sunshine was still refreshing compared to the grey overcast during the chi winter.

even though we were all away from the office, it was no vacay. at the end of the day, work is work and that is all i have to say.
